Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cookies

Since I've done so many girly cookies lately, I thought it was time to add some boy cookies to the mix.  Hayden's birthday was last month and his sweet mom Becca wanted to order him some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cookies to celebrate the big day.

Becca is another wonderful customer and is so easy-going.  I send her some ideas and she says go for it.  I love the flexibility that gives me to create a varied platter design.  I knew I needed to include all four ninja turtles (bonus points if you can name them), and then we had to include their favorite food: pizza!  I threw in some 6's and then a sewer plate with the birthday boy's name.

I loved how the pizza turned out and that dripping cheese over the edge just look so yummy!

I hope you had a great birthday, Hayden, and that you loved the cookies!

Remember the Alamo!... Cookies

This past week was a big one for Texas!  First, Texas celebrated its 178th birthday on March 2nd!  Then, the historic Battle of the Alamo ended on March 6th.  This had me feeling very Texan-proud and I thought it was the perfect time to share these Texas cookies I made back in the fall.

My mother-in-law had some friends visiting from New Zealand and she wanted to give them some Texas themed cookies to welcome them in their first visit to our Lone Star state.  She didn't give me any parameters on the cookies and said to just make them something special that would represent Texas well.

I know to outsiders, Texas is a bunch of cowboys and cowgirls, so I had to include some boots.  Rather than make them traditional boots, I thought putting a paisley print on them would make a cute touch.  I knew I had to include a Texas cookie and chose to use the Texas flag design.  Finally, since they were visiting San Antonio, I wanted to include our most iconic landmark: the Alamo.  To make add a little more Texas culture to the cookies, I decided it would be the Alamo in the spring and added bluebonnets to the base of the building.

The texture on the Alamo was a happy mistake.  One of the Alamo cookies cracked down the middle and I had to perform "cookie surgery" and use icing to piece it back together.  This worked, but then there was a very visible seam down the center of the cookie.  My husband Kevin suggested adding another layer of thin icing on top to hid it.  In the process, I used a spatula to place on icing and scrap it off and I loved the effect.

"Texas, our Texas, all hail the mighty state!"

Happy 2nd Birthday, James!: Bubble Guppies Cookies

I can't believe my sweet baby boy is 2 today!  We had his party on Saturday and we had to go with a Bubble Guppies theme, as it is on a regular basis he request "Bubble." (For those of you who aren't parents of toddlers, Bubble Guppies is a tv show on Nick Jr.)

I was in a pickle about what to do about making the cookies.  The Bubble Guppies characters are adorable, but they would require me to make about 10+ different icing colors and I just wasn't prepared to do that with all the other party preparations I had to do.  I finally decided to hand paint the characters on white and then transfer them to a cookie.

I also managed to do a few decorations and make the cupcakes and his cake for the party.  It is amazing the things we will do for our children!

This face right here made all the hard work worthwhile.

He liked the cookies so much that he didn't even eat his cake!  I loved the precious smile he got when he saw them and that he immediately picked out Gil, the blue-haired boy.

I think this picture says it all!  I'm pretty sure he had a fun time on his birthday!

James, it is a joy to be your mom.  I love your silly faces, your gibberish that sounds like you speak Japanese, your sweet cuddles, the way you "make" me get in your crib with you after you wake up, your fascination with anything with wheels, your energy, and so much more.  I love you so much!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Eliza: Cowgirl Cookies

I LOVE all of my customers, but when a customer is as easy going as Rebekah it makes it very hard to not play favorites.  She emailed me her daughter's invitation for her party and just asked me to make some cookies that coordinated with the cowgirl theme.  Although her party was back in December, now that it's rodeo time in San Antonio I thought it was the perfect time to share them.

This adorable silhouette of a little cowgirl riding a stick horse was on the invitations and I knew I had to include it in the cookies in some way.

I hope you had a wonderful 2nd birthday, Eliza!  I am always so honored to be a part of someone's special day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I had my first ever giveaway back in August.  I was so excited to not only reach 400 likes on Facebook, but 500, that I decided to have two winners.  Melinda was winner number 1 and she ordered the "Let it snow" cookies back in December.  Sally is lucky winner number 2, and she requested Valentine's Day cookies.

Sally and her husband Lee are high school sweethearts and the parents of two adorable little girls, Abigail and Jenna.  I decided to use two shades of pink and then sanding sugar to add some extra detail to the cookies.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Valentine's Cookies: Polka Dot Hearts

I love polka dots.  After browsing through my cookies, that would not be a shocking discovery as I tend to incorporate them into quite a few sets.

My friend and MOPS table leader, Tracy, asked for some simple Valentine's heart cookies.  She was completely happy with them being one solid color, but I knew I wanted to do something to spruce them up just a bit.  Enter the polka dots... and sprinkles.  Sprinkles always add an extra something to the cookies and they also add a nice sugary crunch to the cookies.

Just one more day to Valentine's Day- hope everyone is prepared to shower love on their friends and family!

XO Wedding Cookies

I made these "XO" cookies back in September for Monique and Brian's wedding.  Even though they were used as wedding favors, I thought they would be perfect for Valentine's Day.

Most of you know by now that I am not allowed to ship cookies anymore due to changes in the Texas law for home bakers.  When my friend and wonderful event planner from Event Identity, Krista contacted me to make these cookies for Monique and Brian's wedding, I was sad to have to turn it down since she is located in Houston.  But, Krista, being the person she is and willing to go above and beyond for her clients and her friends, offered to meet me halfway between San Antonio and Houston to get the cookies.  Problem solved!

This was my largest single order to date, with about 180 cookies baked, decorated, and individually bagged.

I hope your Valentine's Day is filled with lots of hugs and kiss! :)
