Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cookies

Since I've done so many girly cookies lately, I thought it was time to add some boy cookies to the mix.  Hayden's birthday was last month and his sweet mom Becca wanted to order him some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cookies to celebrate the big day.

Becca is another wonderful customer and is so easy-going.  I send her some ideas and she says go for it.  I love the flexibility that gives me to create a varied platter design.  I knew I needed to include all four ninja turtles (bonus points if you can name them), and then we had to include their favorite food: pizza!  I threw in some 6's and then a sewer plate with the birthday boy's name.

I loved how the pizza turned out and that dripping cheese over the edge just look so yummy!

I hope you had a great birthday, Hayden, and that you loved the cookies!

Thanksgiving Pie Cookies

Happy Thanksgiving!

While Christmas has long over-taken our stores and we are even seeing some houses decorated already, I want to make sure and give Thanksgiving its deserved time in the spotlight.  To me, Thanksgiving is a time to slow down and spend time with the ones we love... that and a time to celebrate America's real favorite past-time: overeating!  Because of this, I made some cookies to look like pies, the iconic Thanksgiving dessert.

Making pie cookies isn't a new concept.  In fact, several cookie decorators have made adorable cookies to look like pies.  Just stroll over to Pinterest and you'll see what I'm talking about!  But, I wanted to change things up and use the cookie to create the crust in an attempt to create a more realistic looking pie.

I made pumpkin, cherry and chocolate pie- with a dollop of whipped cream of course!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Enjoy the time with your loved ones... and some yummy food, too!

Apple Cookies with Math Symbols

You may remember my friend April that ordered the Nerdy Apple cookies for her mentor teacher that was retiring.  Well, Monday was her younger sister's first day of teaching! I have mentioned in previous blog posts that I was a teacher before becoming a "cookier." Because of this, I completely can appreciate that Monday was an extra special first day for Mary!

To celebrate this big day for Mary, her mom wanted to order her some math themed cookies for her to receive at school.  Mary will be teaching middle school math, so Ms. Stone (her mom) wanted to incorporate that into the cookies.

As much as I would like to take credit for it, the design idea was complete Ms. Stone's idea.  I thought it was such a cute idea and love how they turned out!

Happy First Day of School, Mary, and to all the other new teachers out there.  This year will be one of the most challenging, yet rewarding years of your career.  I promise it gets easier and it is definitely worth it!

Back to School Cookies

Is it that time of year again already?!  It is the start of a new school year and this one holds extra significance because it is my sister's first year back after taking 2 years away to be a stay-at-home mom.  I knew that the first day was going to be hard, so I wanted to do something to brighten it for her.  My go-to solution these days: COOKIES!

The tumbling apples actually wasn't intentionally.  I tried writing "Happy" before the base coat was completely dried and I pushed in some "boo-boo's."  I think it happened for the best though!

Happy First Day of School to teachers and students everywhere!

QuinceaƱera Cookies: 50's Rock and Roll Diner Cookies

Facebook is a wonderful thing!  Yes, it can be a nasty vice that ends up sucking away hours of your day without you even realizing it, but it is thanks to Facebook that I had the opportunity to make these fun 50's Rock and Roll Diner cookies.

Ansonya Burke of Principles in Action Event & Wedding Design saw the Air Force Cookies I made for memorial day when I shared them on Sweet Sugarbelle's page on Facebook.  Principles in Action specializes in incredible Sweets Buffets- seriously, you need to check out her page, they are not only beautiful, but they look delicious! I was so excited and honored when she wanted to include my cookies in her Sweets Buffet for a 50's themed QuinceaƱera.  I was given an inspiration board and told to use my artistic license to create the cookies in a blue, pink, white and silver palette - no black allowed!

While experimenting with what designs to do and what colors to use, I made a Chevrolet Bel Air and jukebox.  Even though they didn't make the final cut, I wanted to share them with you!

The end the cookies we settled on were poodle skirts, oxford shoes, records, diner signs, and ice cream sundaes, and we went with a bolder color palette than the pink and blue used on the car and jukebox.

It was such a pleasure working with you, Ansonya and Principles in Action!  I look forward to continuing to build our working relationship!

Teacher Retirement Party: Nerdy Apples

I met April on the first day of school in 4th grade.  If ever there was a "meet-cute" made for the movies, it was ours (on a side note- I hope "meet-cute" doesn't refer only to romantic couples or you might think this post is headed in a very different direction...).

Anyhow, we were sitting near each other in the "morning room."  I had that mixture of excitement/anticipation of the first day back, before all the monotony of a school year sets in.  I heard someone call my name and whipped my head around to see which of my friends I was about to be reunited with after the long summer.  My hair has almost always been long and my ponytail smacked April right in the face.  It was a great ice breaker and we have been friends ever since!

She contacted me about making cookies for her mentor teacher's retirement party.  April surprised her teacher not only by being at the party, but also by bringing cookies.  I recently saw these cookies on Sweet Sugarbelle's blog and thought they would be perfect for the party.

That's April on the far left surprising her mentor teacher!
I now know you had so much fun surprising your mentor teacher.  I look forward to getting together this summer and letting our little guys meet!

Happy (Almost) Easter!

I went to my #1 inspiration source Pinterest for ideas for Easter.  I found these adorable bunny "tushy" cookies and wanted to try them. I didn't have a bunny cutter like the original blogger, so I had to cut and paste to get the desired shape.  And what would a bunny be digging for but carrots?

I tried two different types of carrots and ended up favoring the less realistic zig-zag ones

Hope everyone is getting as excited about Easter weekend as I am! More Easter cookies to come!
